The Brood
Casino Nova Scotia is offering its artist-in-residence program again this year. The $20,000 program gives a local emerging musician or group financial and professional support through Casino Nova Scotia and partners Music Nova Scotia, plus opportunities to develop their career through performance opportunities.
“Our first year for the Artist in Residence program was very successful,” says Helen MacMillan, regional vice-president and GM of Casino Nova Scotia. “It has been so much fun working with our inaugural artist in residence, The Brood. We are delighted to have been a part of launching their career and look forward to seeing them on stages around the world.”
Dartmouth’s The Brood is a psychedelic rockabilly band currently working on two new singles produced by Charles Austin and Joel Plaskett. “This opportunity has opened so many doors for us. It’s really helped get our name and our music out there,” says Seamus Erskine, front man and lead guitarist. “We’ve learned a lot about the business side of the music industry and we’ve had some pretty amazing performance opportunities.”
The evaluation process includes a review of online applications and demos, interview with selected applicants and a live performance by the finalists at Casino Nova Scotia’s Schooner Showroom on June 12. Music Nova Scotia is administering the program and will provide career path support and industry showcase opportunities such as Nova Scotia Music Week and Canadian Music Week.
