Santa’s Little Helper (altbier)
Gahan House Harbourfront
Brew master Kyle Jeppsen banged out a lot of damn good beers this year and we expect the same from this altbier aged in a oak Hungarian Merlot barrel with mulling spices. Grab a pint or a growler this week.
Winter Beard (double chocolate cranberry stout)
Strap in, this medium-bodied stout is about to deliver a mouthful of flavours: cranberry, chocolate, coffee, and a faint spiciness.
North Brewing Co.
“This beer has excellent malt and yeast flavours to pair with rich food typical of your holiday dinner without being too heavy so it still refreshes the palate.” –Peter Lionais, Tidehouse Brewing
Winter Warmer (English barley wine)
Picaroons Traditional Ales
This boozy ale weighs in at 7.3 per cent, and brings the flavours of the season. Fruity on the nose and malty in taste, with just the right hop hit to polish it off.
80 Bob (Scottish export ale)
Upstreet Craft Brewing
“Most North American brewers decide they need to do something silly when they make traditional Scottish beers, like add smoked malt or other weird ingredients to make it stand out. Upstreet brewed a proper 80 Shilling, the kind that was a staple of my diet when doing my brewing schooling in Edinburgh. Smooth, malty, loads of caramel. This would be perfect with Christmas pudding.” –Jeremy Taylor, 2 Crows Brewing Co.
